I'm sure the Nobel Committee studied those facts very diligently when they awarded Jimmy the Peace prize. I never heard this before - so, it turns out that the great straight shooter Prez Carter cancelled bribes to Mullahs. He was right - if they want money and power, let them get off their butts and kick out the Shah and take control of the country! - and so they did.

Another story worth mentioning is the way he dropped support for Somoza. Not that the Somoza's were such nice people, but the sudden power vacuum brought about many years of brutal wars in the region.

I wonder to what extent the Helsinki accord was instrumental in allowing the USSR not to worry about the West, and instead focus on Afghanistan.

Jimmy is a disaster.
