Credit has already crashed and, as Jesse says, it has taken financials and housing with it. Those are two huge areas which will directly affect consumer and capital spending; they will inevitably affect corporate earnings negatively unless the falling dollar somehow turns us into an exporting juggernaut overnight. Fat chance. Oh, sure, there will some increased exports, but it will take time, capital spending, etc., for them to become material. The recovery in exports won't happen tomorrow.

In the meantime, Bear Rules prevail.

What we need is a good stealth devaluation, one the Chinese and Japanese [and gold] won't notice. vbg.

MISMANAGING THE CURRENCY

Yup.

I wonder how much Helicopter can do given the mess he inherited.

His Volckerian bluff has been called; he dare not repeat it unless he means it.

We need a little pain, some flushing of the pipes to get over this, but Helicopter is too afraid to take such a radical step.

He may ultimately have to.
