Elmat,
Bernake is just the head puppet for the owners of the Federal Reserve, the largest owner I believe is JP Morgan-Chase that own over 40% of this "private" bank. Bernake can only do what is good for the very rich financiers that own him and we the public come in last. The bailout of Bear-Stearns was actually the FEDS providing new "liquidity" to JP Morgan!!
Just as bad is that Fannie Mae is not on the list of financial banks to be looked at by the SEC. The head officer is Stephen Mudd who came in in 2005 after a $15 billion bailout and scandal. Mr. Mudd(49) promised more Transparancy" and "ethics". During his time he now had almost 700,000 shares, mostly at a cost basis of $0. Just in July the officers and directors gave him an additional "free" 280,000 shares then worth $14 million. The total "free" shares they have all fed themselves at this corrupt feeding trough is over 1,300,000 this year alone. Its all on Yahoo finance under insider trading. This bunch of theives were largely in the previous employ of the Clinton and Bush(senior) administrations, all beltway boys. I understand the largest lobbyist group in Washington is not Big Oil, pharmaceuticals, it is the financial institutions---Fannie and Freddie have many lobbyists handing moneys to all our elected representatives. The system at present reminds one of 2000 years ago when politicians engorged themselves to excess as the Roman empire collapsed. I am most concerned theat they will eventually once again turn to confiscate all privately held gold as they have before.
Exciting times! Ssteamer
