Well yes and no.

The very concept of "peak oil" depends upon the price of oil. For example, the Canadian sands production is just getting underway because it is just now becoming economically feasible.

We are importing this oil today because we have not taken advantage of our own reserves. And were OPEC willing to supply more, "Peak oil" doesn't impose any limitation on what they can supply at this point in time or anytime in the near future.

I don't discount the concept as relevant to something, but it is not influencing the price of gasoline in the United States at this time.
