The rise in demand in these countries is disproportionate to the rise in prices. It is fine for some oil lobbyist to espouse all these theories and sell it to the American public, many of whom still continue to believe Saddam was the mastermind of 9/11 (wonder how many still believe the earth is flat). The bullock cart is still the primary tool for Indian and Chinese farmers. And software and hardware engineers (where the boom is) do not farm with tractors. In fact they do not farm at all. Instead they spend their new found wealth to lead a good life like eating out, owning a color TV, trying to buy a iPhone in the black market etc.
