I have a hard time grasping what the big deal is about shorts -- in the commodities or derivatives markets for instance, you can't even have a market without shorts because somebody has to be on both sides of the open interest IMO this recent mania about doing away with shorts serves only to identify and separate the population into two distinct groups: those who understand how markets work and those who don't Thank you for stating so succinctly what I have wondered for quite a while but have never managed to express as clearly. jpg
