You may wanna look at enrolling in a Community sponsored agriculture program near you. Locally grown foods (often organic), supports local agriculture and strengthens ties between you and local farmers. Probably a good thing to have if the SHTF......I know it sounds like hippie stuff, but I think it makes some sense.

I met a guy down the road and his garden is awesome. They've already pulled 6 bushels of green beans. After seeing his garden for the last couple of years, I decided to talk to him the other week. He has corn, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc.. So....it can be done....and now's a good time to start, IMO. I already figured, at first it won't be easy.
