We need to REPLACE oil and coal FAST, after Reagan dismantled Carter's wonderful clean energy program which would have had us off Arab oil ten years ago, we now have a lot of catching up to do. There will still be plenty of uses for oil as a lubricant and in plastics, etc. Don't worry, your stinky fingers won't be out of a job. But as for running all our machines and power plants on the filthy stuff, forget it. We simply can't afford it either financially or in terms of public health and the environment.
