Yes I know, but fundamentally the current models don't deal with well known decadel scale things like ENSO and NAO. Remember the recent spat of BS in the blogsphere regarding that paper about "global warming taking a break" where the authors are claiming to take a reasonable stab and incorporating the NAO into climate models?

If you look at the plots of temps vs the trend line from the 1970's until now, you see a pretty good line fit for that length of time, but on any 8-10-year span the slopes vary from about +/- 2x or more of the longer trend. Pielke Jr was confusing himself with that one.
