You post that opinion piece as if it was fact. However, I'll give you a fact. Where all the money is going to from Silicon Valley VCs right now is into alternative energy. In addition, many companies are very profitable right now selling alternative energy gear, including solar power equipment. So you don't have to get excited about it and you don't have to believe it. The facts speak for themselves.

Also, I don't think much of two of that guy's 5 criteria. First off, these energy sources do not have to be consistent. There are plenty of energy storage solutions to even out the supply. Second, they don't have to be concentrated. In fact, the brightest minds have said a diffuse and decentralized energy infrastructure that resembles the internet would be far more efficient and would capture multiple individual efforts to feed the aggregate demand for energy. The other three, I agree with.
