The demographics have got a lot tighter since then, and this guy is not a clown like Dukakis

Dukakis was not a clown, he was a competent, if lefty, governor. He just looked like a clown after put out that ad showing him in a tank, but that was later in the campaign as I recall. Remember, I was living in Massachusetts then.

I think Obama is like Edwards. Remember how good Edwards sounded in 2004 with his "two Americas" speech? (well, good to his intended audience anyway) But he kept giving the same speech, over and over, and people started asking, "where's the beef?"

I don't think The Great O is immune to such questions, particularly when his chief arguments are pure sophistry - thanks to the policy which I vehemently opposed, conditions in Iraq have improved so much that my judgement in calling for instant withdrawal has been completely vindicated! The ad showing his 'evolving' positions on the surge practically makes itself.

We will get a clearer sense of things after the conventions, when normal people start to pay attention. The upside of basing your campaign on emotion is that you can ride on cloud 9 (or pink unicorns, a la Jib-Jab). The downside is that things can go south just as fast. Remember Howie Dean.
