The California Marriage Protection Act, which will appear on the state’s November ballot, asserts:

“Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

This is a matter for the voters of the State of California as an "amendment to their State Constitution." This is not an amendment to the Constitution of America.

As a candidate and Constitutional lawyer, Obama ought to know that amendments to the Constitution of the USA are proposed by Congress and then voted on by the 50 states not 57 states in a process of ratification.

Good to know Obama's opinion--------those 54% of Californians who support the amendment could very easily pull the lever for McCain and his VP.

Obama’s presumptive Republican rival John McCain announced his support for the initiative last month.

Great. That issue will get some Repubs to the polls to vote for McCain, who otherwise would be unmotivated on election day.
