A ranger is briefing some hikers before their hike in bear country. He tells them to wear these bells on the shoes to warn bears that they are coming and shows them how to use their pepper spray. He comments that from the scat you will be able to tell whether the bear in the area is a black or a grizzly. Upon being questioned on how to tell the difference the ranger replies that the black bears scat will have berries and such in it while the grizzly's will have bells in it and smell distinctly of pepper:)

New website--worse than a flipflopper:http://www.bothwaysbarack.com/

"only need to outrun you" is my husband's line whenever we hike at a state park on 13deg day in Jan - we're often the only humans around. Of course, bears are supposed to be taking their long snooze at that time..if they received the memo.

Here's my favorite bear joke:

You know how to tell black bear poop from grizzly poop?

Ans: Black bear poop has berries and seeds and little bug parts in it.

Grizzly poop smells like pepper and has little brass bells that tinkle in it.

(Some people carry bear spray as protection, and little brass bells to make a noise the grizzlies can hear. They have poor eyesight but if they hear you coming they 'usually' try to avoid you. The worst thing is to surprise one, or be surprised over a deer kill by one. )
