Dated 2005... clearly the SEC is aware of the problem taking steps to clean it up... I didn't know there were even this on the ball.

Naked shorting is a Jabillonth of the short shares outstanding... it results in extra shares on the market that shouldn't exist.

The good news is that they are tied to a broker dealers account... so unlike maufacturing a "fake rollex" or "counterfeiting" like some have mentioned... it's nothing of the sort. All shares are tracedable back to an account and the "nake short" can be found and eliminated if the proper regulatory authorites act.
