"Let me be absolutely clear," Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, said today at a press conference in Amman, Jordan.
"Israel is a strong friend of Israel's."

Well, one thing for sure. With a father who says those kinds of things, his children are going to be an enormous handful, when they start telling their parents the reasons they went the other way and not the way they were supposed to go...

Had the stoplight not have been the color it was, but changed in midstreet, I think my assessment to get across the street in one piece would have been correct"....

or

"If the dog hadn't eaten my homework, I would have gotten a perfect grade..."

"Here is what I will say," Obama said, "I think that, I did not anticipate, and I think that this is a fair characterization, the convergence of not only the surge but the Sunni awakening in which a whole host of Sunni tribal leaders decided that they had had enough with Al Qaeda, in the Shii'a community the militias standing down to some degrees. So what you had is a combination of political factors inside of Iraq that then came right at the same time as terrific work by our troops. Had those political factors not occurred, I think that my assessment would have been correct."

"Here is what I will say," Obama said

Why not just say it? Why preface it with something pompous like that?

Don't tell me this guy is more haughty than Kerry....
