I recently had a water leak with my washing machine, but since it's located in my attached garage, there was no water damage. Might be worthwhile for you to ask if it's possible to have a drain in the floor of your laundry area, especially with its being on the second floor. Naomi would probably agree, given her recent water problem.

The laundry will be on the second floor
