Your post about Singapore being a hellhole really shocked me. Was there in 97. Remarkable country. I arrived at the hotel at 2 AM after passing shopkeepers cleaning their sidewalks. Asked the hotel clerk if it was safe to go for a run around town. He laughed and said "it's safe anywhere, anytime".

They have lots of religions that exist peacefully side by side because the government won't tolerate problems. Was walking by a mall when two guys got into a big argument over something on a street corner. Up comes a small plain van. Out pop 6 police officers. They didn't ask any questions. They hustled both men into the van and left. I asked a local what just happened. He told me the police would sort it out later.
