. Everyone in the world knows that if you flood a region with American troops, they are going to pacify the area.

Its not simply a matter of temporarily pushing down violence by their presence. Many of the areas appear to have made longer term improvements, and more and more of them are being turned over to the Iraqis, with violence still way down even with a US presence that is no larger, and may be smaller, than the pre-surge levels.

Providing security to the people against an insurgency isn't besides the point, it is the point. Its the best way to get information about the enemy, and to get people to support you. It makes your position stronger, and the other sides weaker. Its usually the best way to fight such a war.

There has been a political reconciliation. The largest Sunni bloc recently rejoined the government:

BBC:
The main Sunni Muslim bloc in Iraq has rejoined the Shia-led GOVERNMENT, in a significant lift for Prime Minister Nouri Maliki.

The return of six ministers from the Accordance Front to the cabinet was approved by lawmakers.

The Sunni bloc withdrew almost a year ago following a row over power-sharing.

A spokesman for the Accordance Front said its return was a significant step forward for political reform in the predominantly Shia country.

As for the reduction in violence - that has occurred and it has been maintained now that the surge troops have been withdrawn.

15 of 18 legislative benchmarks set by Congress have been met. Undeniable progress.

you logic and priorities are very aligned with the neocons and devoid of a morale compass.

I know, you liberals consider all dissenters from your opinions evil fascists. Thats a shame.
