This is one of the latest article I have read on the subject of US nuclear power plants.

There seems to be a belief there is a need. Yet the action to get an end result is lagging.

I don't believe these plants in Florida are even permitted yet. Maybe the one by FPL is.

It takes a long time to go through the permitting process, and following that the construction period is very long. Based in real life happenings in the oil industry, during recent years, I think these companies will find their cost estimates a tad low.

The main point is that it is going to be some years down the road before nuclear power can make significant additions to the grid, in the US.

No new builds, but several plant life extensions are underway FWIW -- world-nuclear.org

And I would not be surprised at all if you are correct about how shallow the pool of nuclear engineering expertise has become
