The premise is that you are in short term government paper, so that you don't get defaulted on. The issue of the duration you want on short government paper really comes down to your cash flow situations and who is your account with etc. remember the US Govy paper is good , but if your broker/financial firm hits turmoil you may have delay getting your hands onto those funds.
