This is exactly right -- he was able to appeal to the anger in the public about what they viewed as an "unjust" outcome from the War. This WAS a fundamental element in bringing Hitler to power.

The peace treaty forced upon them after WW I was quite the opposite and besides being extremely unfair really was utterly stupid and set the stakes for WW II.

I can't say I've considered this, but I can see where the argument could be made.
