NP says Kinross trading at "heavy" discount to peers

2008-07-16 09:36 ET - In the News

The National Post reports in its Wednesday edition that Kinross Gold retreated 82 cents Tuesday to close at $23.80. The Post's Sonita Horvitch writes in the Buy & Sell column that Howson Tattersall Investment Counsel stockpickers Suzann Pennington and Richard Howson like Kinross's geographic diversity. The say Kinross has an excellent production growth profile, an improving cost structure and seasoned managers. Despite these advantages, Kinross is trading at a "heavy" discount to its peers "as investors are focused on the three mines scheduled to start up in the next 12 months." The stock currently trades at "just over one times NAV, while the other large cap gold stocks, with a weaker production profile, trade at 1.3 times to 1.6 times NAV." The Post reported that TD Newcrest rated Kinross "hold" in new coverage on Feb. 12. It was then trading at $22.93. Mr. Barnes targeted the stock at $23 (U.S.). RBC Capital Markets analyst Stephen Walker said in the Post on Jan. 9 that Kinross Gold's low valuation made it a likely takeover target. It was then trading at $21.49. AGF Funds managers Charles Oliver and Jamie Horvat said buy Kinross in the Buy & Sell on Nov. 6 when it was trading at $18.90.

Interesting PP tucked away in the agreement . 70 million bucks to ARU even if the deal does not go through . Looks to me that K has it's bases covered if a better offer comes in K makes a few million .

I re-entered DMM today due to ARU, adjusting my plan to wait until official new mining rules out.
