McCain's clumsy campaign is locking up the right wing while latching on to populist issues that work for him. Imagine an election where the american people choose from the following:
1. $3 gas or $5 gas with the democrat position being the position of JF (and gore) over here that we need pain to get long term independence or McCain $3 oil so the economy survives.
2. obama like hillary fails to admit an error in not supporting surge---with hillary it was admitting she voted wrongly for war.
3. dems who want guantanimo closed and fair trials for all prisoners or mccain who says screw the prisoners, lets keep america safe.
4. bail out fannie mae (i agree with that) or mccain saying no bailouts..Which is more populist.
5. obama speaking to euros who think they should elect our president because they are better than us or mccain eating schnitzel in berlin PA with americans.
6. obama with convuluted liberal plans plus programs that americans sort of know wont lower their taxes or McCain no new taxes and keep cuts in place.

I can go on and on but obama is losing that part of the independent vote that he might end up needing. its not so matter running to the left but its lack of connection with what more people than not feel deep down.
