Why are the majority of D's in favor and not the R's in AK for the natural gas pipeline....?

Which route would that pipeline take? I don't follow Alaskan issues, but know there are several routes. Don't some politicians want a route that tracks the Alyeska pipeline? Which would require Alaskan natural gas to be shipped as LNG? Silly when you consider Alaska is part of the same continent as the lower 48.

Think there are two potential land routes too. The most logical one would be to swing east to join the Mackenzie valley pipeline Canada intends to build - but this would travel the least distance through Alaska and produce the fewest jobs there.
