Arabs are from the Arabian Penninsula. That is from where there genetic line hails. Iraqis, Iranians are Persian and Summarians. You need not speak Arabic to be of Arab decent. Just like you don't have to speak Hebrew to be of Jewish decent. Just like you. You don't have to know much about the law to remain being a lawyer.

Apparently an Arab is self-identified. Therefore, Obama 'could' be an Arab, although probably in the sense of "Ich bin ein Arab." That is, for convenience when needed.

An Arab is a person who identifies as such on genealogical,[4][5] linguistic,[6][7] or cultural grounds.[8][9] The plural form, Arabs, refers to the ethnic group at large.

The Arab League, a political organization intended to encompass the Arab World, defines as Arab,

“ a person whose language is Arabic, who lives in an Arabic speaking country, who is in sympathy with the aspirations of the Arabic speaking peoples.

Not necessarily. My husband was born in Jordan and educated in Beirut. He was from a Christian family. He believed Moslems in the commonly thought of Arab countries were Arabs - not Turks, not Iranians.

Another fellow I knew was a Christian Lebanese diplomat. These folk never identified themselves as Arabs.

All spoke Arabic, French and English.

From MSNBC:
From NBC's Jim Miklaszewski and Courtney Kube A U.S. military official tells NBC News they were making preparations for Sen. Barack Obama to visit wounded troops at the Landstuhl Medical Center at Ramstein, Germany on Friday, but "for some reason the visit was called off."
One military official who was working on the Obama visit said because political candidates are prohibited from using military installations as campaign backdrops, Obama's representatives were told, "he could only bring two or three of his Senate staff member, no campaign officials or workers." In addition, "Obama could not bring any media. Only military photographers would be permitted to record Obama's visit."
The official said "We didn't know why" the request to visit the wounded troops was withdrawn. "He (Obama) was more than welcome. We were all ready for him."
