Yes, the list is "astronomical". And the government does just about everything right. From making you as safe as possible on the roads, to making the food you eat safe, to protecting you from fire, and criminals, to defending your country, to funding most basic research, to cleaning your streets, to enforcing a fair marketplace in both consumer goods and investments, to regulating virtually everything you touch in any given day, to providing sound currency for commerce, to providing a safety net in case you falter or become disabled, to the major projects that build the infrastructure that makes your prosperity possible. Do they F-up sometimes? Sure, as does anyone in private or public life. The things they do are what make this country great. Not a bunch of immigrants that happen to have the good fortune to be born in the country with the best governance in the world. And frankly it pisses me off when a bunch of ingrate libertarians somehow think they are the driving force behind America. You would be nothing without the government "intruding" in your life. The thing that our government has done better than most other governments is to not try to make as many economic decisions. the people created the success and our government didn't get in the way as much as they did in other places. "In the way"? For all the services and benefits you receive from government, the taxes you pay are the best deal in the world. You ought to Thank God for the US government not run it down like you are some independent American hero. Without government you would be nothing; a peasant.
