Many of them where only sped up by the government. The markets where moving to demand them anyway. Get rid of the regulations now and much of the safety equipment would remain. In fact we have many vehicles going well beyond what regulations demand.

I'm noticing a pattern here. You make broad assertions with no proof and a clear ignorance of corporate history. Time and again during the history of this country, corporations have proven to be self-serving when it comes to the public good. They almost always go for short term profits at the expense of the public and safety is the very first thing that suffers. How many times have we read about companies that release deadly toxins into our water supply or build an unsafe product and hide their knowledge of it, until they are caught red handed. The only thing standing in the way of companies putting profits ahead of public safety is the government. To deny that is to ignore US corporate history.
