I can agree with that. We need balance in all things. Too much government is a bad thing. Too little is also a bad thing. Laissez faire markets don't work for the common good. They generally end up with a handful of rich people at the top and everyone else dirt poor and they usually lead to a dictatorial government structure, since wealth is power. The American system is a hybrid free market with just enough regulation to provide for the common good and just enough freedom to ensure a productive use and allocation of resources to create wealth. And it does that trick while spreading the wealth around the classes fairly well.

If we don't maintain a system that keeps the dream of class mobility alive, then the whole system begins to die. Everyone celebrates the guy who makes billions, ONLY if they believe that it is possible for anyone in the country to do the same. The minute they believe it is only possible to make billions if you are part of an elite group who are connected to government, then faith in our markets and government is destroyed and the Democracy dies.
