Dem pols as well are experts at spending, crucial difference is where they spend. Repubs prefer to keep the military strong, while Dems - like Pres Clinton - gut the military and divert those funds to inefficient social programs..that cause more problems than they ever solve.

I am not advocating a full blown discussion of Russian Oil on this site. Posting for information and encourage anyone who wants to know more about Russia and oil do their own research on Lukoil and Yukos.

This article is just one of many about Lukoil and Yukos. To understand the situation in Russia, one must research and read the articles on Yukos and the arrest and imprisonment of Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

heritage.org

"'The Kremlin's attack on YUKOS, the major Russian oil company--including the arrest of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mikhail Khodorkovsky, seizure of his shares of YUKOS, and his subsequent resignation--is a watershed event in post-communist Russia. This development has negative implications on several levels, and its ripple effects are far from over. Obviously, President Vladimir Putin has been listening to those who do not care about Russian integration into the global economy and who are undermining his stated goal of doubling Russian gross domestic product by 2008."

Plan to spend an evening or two reading about Yukos.

The one similarity that I do see is that there are some members of Congress who are calling for the nationalization of oil companies-----a leftist solution.
