The outcome of the current course the US is on IMO is stagflation. There will be more inflation and reduced economic growth. If a carbon tax or other such is implemented there will be a hue and cry when the job loses start.

The US must be in an economic growth mode to provide opportunity for a huge group of under privileged and under educated citizenry that is growing for a whole variety of reasons. The elitists who are perpetrating this coming disaster "have theirs" and are not overly concerned about those that do not and now will not - but for now their rhetoric has the votes of those who are about to be hurt the most. If Obama panders to the looniest parts of the democratic base he will disappoint many who see him as their salvation. The payback will be more government programs and less opportunity.

I believe the upcoming election in the UK will be an example of the fate the green idiocy will bring to those who will legislate it.

The key to the issue is transition. A hard stop on current energy technologies risks a train wreck. A gradual substitution can work as long as it is mostly market driven.
