Based on the information in the last post, I went back did a little "digging" to find information on past worldwide sales. North American sales have been well reported and documented, but little has been posted on worldwide sales. By looking at several sources, I was able to come up with the following table of worldwide sales. The numbers are rounded a little, but should be very close to what has transpired.

The sales numbers are in Billions of US dollars. If the estimates are correct, by 2010 total sales will still be less than 2007, not a very robust growth profile<g>. As a matter of fact, the biggest sales year ever was 2000 at 47.5 Billion. Looks like it will be several more years before that number is challenged, if ever.

The big question is: When will the semiconductor equipment stock prices find a "bottom" and start to improve in anticipation of the better sales in 09 and 10?
