As large as Barcelona's die is, there would be significant fallout even at normal yields. What's interesting is that Intel has no plans to offer a cripple core version of Nehalem. I think there's a message there.

Phenoms are in good supply at ~$175 - how much lower do you expect AMD to price their top end product?

They need to do something with all those parts, but don't want to sell their "Halo" product for $100, so they market tri-cores.
