S&P downgrades SanDisk to 'B ' from 'BB-'; outlook negative

10:59 AM ET 7/24/08 | Marketwatch

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Standard & Poor's Ratings Services on Thursday cut SanDisk Corp.'s corporate credit and senior unsecured ratings to B+ from BB- due to the unexpected severity of second-quarter operating losses and the company's expectation that industry conditions will worsen in the near term.

It also lowered the outlook on the company's ratings to negative from stable. "If the company cannot equalize demand and supply, it is likely to continue to operate with negative discretionary cash flow. If liquidity is depleted to below $2 billion over the next two to three quarters, we could lower the rating. Once the company's operating trends return to historical averages, and leverage statistics recover to levels that are commensurate with the rating, we could revise the outlook to stable," said Lucy Patricola, an S&P credit analyst. Ratings agencies view B-grade ratings as speculative.
