Well I stepped on the scale and had edged up to 260 so I'm starting this morning. I will report here also so that you and I can kind of egg each other on:) Good for you on the head start.

Isn't Atenolol to lower your heart rate? I have a rapid pulse and I thought that was the pill I was taking for that and the diuretic was for the bp.

Bill,

I am wondering how quickly the ketosis will kick in.

BTW, Dr. Eades (of the Protein Power) mentioned that some people feal a little lethargic when they suddenly switch to very low carb diet. The reason is that the body needs to create enzymes in order to be able to digest food, different enzymes for different kinds of food. The enzymes need some time to ramp to the appropriate level when you radically change the type of food you eat.

The same thing happens when a person who is on low carb diet is suddenly faced with high carb meal (such as when a person who is on low carb diet takes a glucose tolerance test).

Joe

Congrats LB............your efforts are encouraging me to go back on the Atkins for awhile. I did it about 3 yrs ago and it worked well, but I could stand it only for about 4 months. All of my sandwiches were meat and cheese with lettuce "bread." This time of year it would be nice to add some fresh tomatoes from the garden to that sandwich, but i think they're off limits?

And I discovered a nice appetizer in one of Susan Summer's books I thought I'd share in case you want a snack.

Chips for dip:

Take shredded (I found that shredded worked best) parmesan and drop one tsp or so into a hot, non stick pan. Fry on one side until brown (this happens quickly) and turn, frying until brown. Drain on paper towels. The whole process took 2 minutes max if I remember correctly. Of course I dropped quite a few little tsp's of parmesan in at a time, and ended up with a lot of "chips."

Eat them with ranch or onion dip.

It was a really nice appetizer.

I googled them, and found that many recipe threads have them. Here's a baked variety if you want to eliminate all the fuss. You could season them with an onion or garlic pwd.
