The Beijing Olympics should be pretty well run. They will do whatever is necessary to get the air clean and maintain control. They are somewhat of a police state when you get down to it, so it shouldn't be a problem for them.

You'd laugh if you ever saw one of their cops or solidiers. Their uniforms look like they came from Goodwill, and they don't typically carry weapons. For the average American, they're not a real menacing force. Most are poorly educated and come from the countryside.

As for the Beijing area GDP, a large portion is government anyway, so there's not much lost productivity there <G>
