Sigghh, we are in such different planets, Tim.

Short answers to your statements.

1. The Reps have advocated taking away women's right to choose, and done so at the national level for a very long time. But one can effectively date it to 1980, just for convenience. That's a threat to the ability of women to choose to have an early term abortion. Pretty clear limitation of a choice that the SC had decided derived from the constitution.

2. On affirmative action, it's point is to increase the opportunity to groups discriminated against. If you think there is no discrimination in American society, then your position is tenable. Since discrimination in public education is still a major problem, affirmative action is necessary to expand opportunity.

3. Present attempts to deny gays and lesbians the right to marry are so obviously a limitation on their freedom, it's not even worth discussing.

>>The only part that would amount to a large movement is opposition to government recognition of commited homosexual relationships as marriages, and giving them benefits as such.

If that is considered problematic, it would be so in terms of equal treatment, not in terms of restricting anyone's liberty. <<

Tim -

Heterosexuals who marry are given the right to take advantage of many kinds of benefits. Homosexuals aren't given that right.
