gas prices can be controlled by conservation and increasing supplies short term. Long term gore plan maybe scaled back to 20 years. No doubt it needs to be done, but given the shitty state of the american economy, now more than ever, it needs to be implemented conservatively and without the disruption that $7 gas will cause to the already stumbling economy. ECO 101 do no harm

I think it wouldn't hurt to tighten the belt around the American economy. There might be some discomfort the first couple of years but we will adjust. Look how quickly people adjusted to >$3 gas. After all, the increase in mass transit ridership didn't start this year and May was the 7 month where gas consumption was down YoY. Its time.

People don't suffer when they diet carefully....its only when they overeat they run into problems.
