If the Republicans have let the corporations rule for the last 6 years, why haven't the oil companies gotten Bush and the formerly Republican led Congress to open up ANWR and the OCS previously?

Because most people opposed it (Rep and Dem) and it is a headline, red flag issue.

If the economy has turned stagnant and oil prices have grown most sharply in the last year and a half and if Republicans are at entirely at fault for that, why did those things only occur after Democrats won majority control over the House and Senate?

There is often a delay between cause and effect. Even if we were to enact a true comprehensive energy policy (efficiency/production) today it would be years before it would really start to kick in. The benign neglect of energy policy over the last, hell, the last 30 years has led us to where we are today.

Linking high oil prices to Democrats is a joke and you know it in your heart. You may post things like that here just to score points with your neocon friends, but no reasonable person can make that connection. Oil prices are high now due to the war mongering policies of Bush since 2003 and due to our government and citizens not doing anything over the last 25 years to get us to oil independence, even as China and India have contributed to an increased global demand of unprecedented levels. Democrats who have not been able to accomplish anything due to incessant filibusters by Republicans over the last 1.5 years are not at fault.

As far as opening up ANWR and OCS previously when the Republicans had control of Congress, that's a darn good question. They passed an energy bill giving $13B in subsidies to oil companies, so you'd think they would have opened up those for drilling as well when they had the chance. Goes to show that the Republicans big show of wanting to open it up now is just that...a big show. They didn't do it when they had the chance and now it's too late.
