I don't know how we get people to run for office. I personally would not do it for love or money.

Last night we returned from a trip to town to find a candidate for county commissioner on our porch leaving a brochure. He sat down and talked to us for about an hour, and we were able to pass along our concerns. He was very knowledgeable about the issues, and supportive of our views. I think I will vote for him. There's a candidate night Thursday, so I'll see the others too.

I just got our Voter's Pamphlet in the mail. Washington has a new primary system called the Top Two, or something like that. You can vote for any candidate regardless of party in the primary. The two candidates with the most votes go on to the general election. The candidates can choose to express a party preference but are not obligated to do so. There are so many candidates and parties that I've never even heard of that I'm really getting alarmed.

There is even one candidate for governor, a doctor, obviously a Muslim with a middle east name, and his platform would be fine for Iran. It makes my skin crawl.
