would like to keep gas price at $4 which we are getting used to but if you do, i dont think govt gets the money they expect. Thats where you end up with gauging. If legit price were at $3.75, oil cos. station operators etc would widen margins and prevent the quarter from going to Uncle.

The taxes can be funneled into mass transit projects and alt. energy research. That's not gauging; that's good planning.

As for belt tightening, i dont disagree on principle but no more belt tightening this year, please until we at least can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The light IS at the end of the tunnel.....for now. Gas has dropped below $4 and crude looks to be settling below $120 for the foreseeable future. The point is we've been given a respite.......we don't know how big the window is.....so we need to act with expediency....NOW and not next year.
