The suspension of the uptick rule has greatly increased the volatility. Previously, that rule prevented momentum-trading on the short side. There may even be some very old-fashioned bear raids going on in some less-capitalized stocks. We would not know about them because they would be quite secretive operations. I am thinking of collusion to drive down the stock of a smaller bank by shorting it, spreading rumors (much easier now with the Internet), continuing to short, and then covering. We may start hearing about such operations in the next year or two.

Much of the apparatus wisely put into place in the 1930s has been dismantled.

I have a very old book published in 1933 with the title of "The Business of Trading in Stocks" by John Durand and A. T. Miller that I picked up some years ago in a flea market. Chapters 3-5 are titled, "The Technique of Manipulation."

I think I paid about $2.00 for the book, which is in good condition. I wonder if it sells on Amazon . . .

Let's see . . .

I see here that it originally came out in 1927 and has been republished recently in paperback. But original copies in leatherette are available for half the price of the paperback. I was hoping it had achieved rare book status, but I guess I only have a 500% gain on my $2.00. <G> In any case, it may be relevant again.

Meanwhile, in Zimbabwe: Message 24806526 Gono announced he was dropping 10 zeros from the currency, effective Friday. That comes a week after he introduced a 100 billion-dollar note that was not enough to buy a loaf of bread

That could work in the US as well. First they could start with a 1/1.6 RS so that the Amero and the EOR trade at par.

a crisis coming to USA within a few months if not
a few weeks" Smells bad don't it?
