So now what? Pass a law requiring all gas stations to give mandatory tire inflation checks? Have the "conservation cops" out writing tickets to people driving with underinflated tires?

Obama is simply reminding people that keeping your tires at the right pressure improves fuel efficiency. I have been doing the same with my friends for the past year. You would be surprise how many people, esp women, don't even consider it a problem that effects fuel efficiency.

People have been told to keep their tires properly inflated ever since gas hit $3/gallon. It's quite a pain to check that every month, even for guys like me who know what they're doing.

Major pressure changes occur when weather changes significantly. I check mine a couple of times per season. Plus, if I take my car in for work, I ask the guys at the mechanics to check them.

Obama's not going to talk about Americans being screwed with $4 a gallon gas. It will cost him the election. That's why the dems are talking about slavery, dope, and inflating your tires, tune up cars that aren't tuned up until 100k miles...

Republicans need to keep $4 a gallon gasoline on the front page.

No... it's just good that a guy that has a huge influence on the American people is giving solid advice to the citizenry. Not everything has to be a matter of law.

They're already passed a law that requires vehicles to have automatic tire pressure sensors. Which simply drives up prices for consumers who don't want or care for that functionality.

The entire "tire pressure" issue is bogus. Not that underinflation won't cause reduced mileage, but it is insubstantial in amount and the it is doubtful that many people are riding around with tires unduly low anyway.

The idea that, as Obama claimed, it is going to provide as much savings as the oil that could be extracted by domestic drilling, it is just liberal treehugger nonsense.

This is not unlike Al Gore making claims about melting polar icecaps, etc. -- just made up crap.
