a) You might want to choose one measurement or the other. The deficit is generally assumed to be the reported figure, while the increase in debt includes that which is being borrowed from Social Security.

b) Even if you choose to talk about the actual increase in debt, you'll find that the local maximum once again was in 2004, and that the trend going toward 2007 is down. Wiki doesn't show 2008 figures (since they are estimated, obviously), but even the down trend from 2004 to 2007 directly contradicts your previous arguments, that the deficit kept going up until the Dems took over Congress.
