That's very odd you say that. When gas prices rose the restaurants here emptied for about 2 months. Lately they are busier than ever. Have no explanation whatsoever for why.

Northeastern NJ is like a world unto itself. Fort Lee is still doing alright also, but go further west and people seemed to be more depressed... We are in the Wayne area, where home prices have not really collapsed, but it sure ain't like it used to be.

Just finished eating at Manresa in Los Gatos (two Michelin stars). We were watching the kitchen staff working and talking to the host. The host said that back in January the Chef looked at the economy at cut back to 5 days/wk. from being open 6 days and reduce front-of-house staff. Host went on to say that they have definitely seen a reduction in bookings. We found it pretty easy to get a table. High end is getting hurt.
