What's Putin up to.......the guy makes me very worried? Between bewitching Bush while insuring his stay in power, the guy needs to be kept on a very short leash.

Russian Probe Expands
7/31/2008 2:32 PM EDT

Russia is widening its antitrust investigation beyond just beleaguered Mechel Steel (MTL). Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service is now also targeting Evraz and Raspadsky Ugol. The government is charging that all three companies, who together control more than half of Russia's coking coal market, are exploiting their near-monopoly status.

Mechel tanked on Putin's criticism of the company's pricing practices, losing half its market value from July 24th - July 28th. MTL, an ADR listed here in the US markets, hit an all-time high of $58.66 less than three months ago and is now trading down over 60% lower.
