However, those things don't account for minor underinflation of, say, 5 PSI. Given that tire pressure changes by that much and more simply due to increased tire temperature from normal driving, the sensors right now allow for plenty of leeway. Mine are pretty sensitive, but I'm not sure 5 psi would be picked up. I get the idea they are really look for disparity amongst the 4 tires -- so if one is significantly lower than the others you get the warning. I don't really know how they work though. I know that when they're cold you're much more apt to get the warning. Next up: the return of the 55 MPH speed limit. Yeah, they're going to try and do it, and it is awfully unpopular with people. I hate the 55 mph speed limit; it is utterly absurd to have this arbitrarily low figure shoved down our throats. Honestly, if it costs me more to drive 80 (and I doubt it does -- my car seems to get about the same mileage either way, and it has far more to do with WHERE I'm driving than it does the speed at which I drive), then if I want to pay for the gas how is that the freaking government's business? I just paid a $150 speeding ticket I got while driving through a speed trap -- not designed to save lives, not designed to save fuel, but designed to raise money for a municipality with 400 people in it. I just think it is more opportunity for government to meddle in our lives -- something Obama, et.al., love, and something I just can't stand. Think I'll move to France if he gets elected ;)
