"Some are finally at that point, but it took FAR longer than the analyst-gypsies crystal balls predicted."

Yep. And despite Cisco's full-court press (no half-measures here) in its vigorous promotion of 'telepresence', it, along with its less extravagantly-appointed alternatives in the marketplace, is still eschewed in favor of audio conferencing and email, not to mention IM (and, in a growing number of cases, applications like Twitter), where IM has now gained favor over all others for meaningful task-level communications), by the vast majority of global, collaborating teleworkers, which is especially apparent when viewed as a percentage of the growing number users around the globe.

That 1999 FCC report you pointed to is sure interesting. I had a hard time remembering the names of some of those 20th Century cellular operators.

As for how many remaining patrons visit this thread, I think what happened here is similar to what befell the Last Mile Technologies thread when you created the first FCTF board back at about the same time (1999):

Subject 30664

I guess neither of us felt you'd be the cause of another thread's demise, eh? The forces of disruption know no bounds, I guess.
