In general, I think unions are becoming less and less relevant. People aren't as compelled to vote "Union Yes" to protect their benefits as employees.

Doesn't mean the unions won't stop trying to reverse the trend. Nor am I naive enough to think that corporations will pull every trick in the book to hamper unionization of employees. There are some huge power struggles going on, much bigger than what Mom 'n Pop can or should worry about.
