That point depends on the cost. Like with all the current techniques. So far, they only cost-effective way to do it is to "store" it on the grid. Where it isn't so much stored as it is use to offload existing capacity that can operate when solar is offline.

They claim it is highly efficient compared to existing solutions, although that appears to be restricted to electrolyzers. The only thing keeping current ones from being used in this application is the cost of the equipment and the operational hazards. If this method is significantly cheaper and is even marginally more efficient, it should be ok.
