I'm not an expert so I'll take a guess on what is a livable wage. $18 an hour. That's $720 a week, about $2880 a month, about $34,500 a year.

You're an idiot.

$18/hour for a freaking shelf-stocker?

You would pay these nonskilled, often un-trainable people what a rookie police officer with a college degree makes?

Maybe you should consider some other average salaries.

Lab Assistant II $37,700
Biochemist $44,000
Biomedical Engineer $47,000
Microbiologist $39,000
Postdoctorate Scientist $43,000
An Army Specialist (defending your freedom) $21,000
Bartender $18,000
Cocktail Waitress $16,000
Chemical Technician $39,000
Geologist $42,000

Hopefully, you can see just how stupid your proposition is. It would lead, quickly, to a huge increase in unemployment as employers are motivated to replace unskilled laborers with computers and other equipment.

You cannot pay unskilled people $35K or $40K just because they want a nice lifestyle. They need to get themselves educated and qualified for a higher paygrade. (The exception above is soldiers, who are grossly underpaid and are doing their jobs solely because they are the finest Americans and are willing to do the job for nothing because they know it has to be done).

You're freaking stupid man.
